Advantages of Helical Teeth Racks

 01

Excellent Comprehensive Mechanical Properties

Typically made of high-strength steel, helical teeth racks undergo quenching and tempering treatment to enhance hardness, toughness, wear resistance, and impact resistance.

02

High Transmission Efficiency

The helical tooth design ensures a longer contact line between the gear and rack during meshing, resulting in uniform load distribution. Compared with straight-tooth racks, helical-tooth racks offer higher torque, less interference and friction, thus achieving higher transmission efficiency, reducing energy loss, and simultaneously lowering noise and vibration for smoother operation.

03

Strong Adaptability

They can be matched with various types of gears, servo motors, and drive systems to meet the needs of different mechanical transmission systems. Additionally, they can be installed in a butt-jointed manner to achieve any length, adapting to different working stroke requirements.

Applications of Helical Teeth Racks

CNC machines

Helical teeth racks are used in CNC machines to provide precise linear positioning and motion control.

Robotics

Helical teeth racks are used in robotics to control the movement of robot arms and joints with high accuracy and repeatability.

Industrial automation

Helical teeth racks are used in industrial automation to provide linear motion in conveyor systems, packaging machines, and other automated equipment.

Printing presses

Helical teeth racks are used in printing presses to provide precise linear motion in paper feed and printing mechanisms.

Material handling systems

Helical teeth racks are used in material handling systems to control the movement of goods and materials with high accuracy and speed.

Automotive systems

Helical teeth racks are commonly used in automotive systems such as power steering and braking systems. The smooth operation and reduced noise of helical gear racks make them an ideal choice for these applications.

Installation of Helical Teeth Racks

Position and Fasten the Rack: First, place the rack on the mounting base, use locating pins for initial positioning, and then fasten the rack to the mounting surface with fasteners such as bolts to prevent displacement during installation.

Adjust Rack Clearance: During assembly, the clearance between two racks must be adjusted to match the pitch, ensuring accurate meshing between the gear and rack. Professional measuring tools, such as a pitch gauge, can be used for measuring and adjusting the clearance.

Position the Subsequent Rack: Use a reverse tooth gauge to position the next rack, ensuring consistent tooth profile and pitch between adjacent racks for stable transmission.

Check Parallelism: Inspect each interface one by one, and use a round bar to detect the parallelism of the rack. Ensure that the overall straightness and parallelism of the rack meet requirements after installation, avoiding poor transmission or accelerated wear caused by installation errors.

Fit and Ream Rack Pin Holes and Install Locating Pins: After inspection, fit and ream the rack pin holes, then install locating pins to further fix the rack and prevent loosening or displacement during long-term use.

Processing Technology

Material Selection

Select appropriate materials based on the application requirements and performance characteristics of the rack. These materials possess excellent mechanical properties and wear resistance.

Blank Processing

Use equipment like sawing machines or wire-cut electrical discharge machines to cut the raw materials into blanks with dimensions close to the final product, laying the foundation for subsequent processing.

Tooth Profile Processing

As a key step, numerical control (NC) milling machines or specialized gear processing machines are used for tooth profile machining. During processing, the movement of the machine tool must be precisely controlled according to design parameters (e.g., module, number of teeth, helix angle) to machine the helical tooth profile that meets requirements. In the milling process, it is essential to select suitable milling cutters and cutting parameters (such as cutting speed and feed rate) to ensure the accuracy and surface quality of the tooth profile.

Heat Treatment

Depending on the material and application requirements, some racks may undergo heat treatment processes like quenching and tempering. These processes help improve the rack's hardness, strength, and wear resistance, thereby extending its service life.

Finish Machining

Perform finish machining operations (such as surface grinding) on the racks that have undergone heat treatment or direct processing. This further enhances the smoothness and accuracy of the tooth surface, ensuring that the rack's dimensional tolerance and surface roughness meet standard requirements.

Inspection and Assembly

Use professional inspection equipment (e.g., coordinate measuring machines) to inspect the finished racks in terms of dimensional accuracy, tooth profile accuracy, and surface quality, ensuring they comply with the DIN standard and design requirements. After passing the inspection, the racks are assembled and prepared for use.

FAQ

Q: How long is your delivery time?

A: If the item is in stock, it's usually 5-10 days. If the item is not in stock, it's 15-20 days, depending on the quantity.

Q: Do you provide samples? Are they free or additional?

A: Yes, we can provide free samples, but we don't cover the shipping costs.

Q: What is a helical rack?

A: A helical rack is a rack that meshes with a helical gear and is created by increasing the radius of the pitch cylinder of a helical gear to infinity. This rack has a straight tooth profile with a twist.

Q: What is the angle of a helical rack?

A: Helix angles are selected to obtain a minimum overlap ratio and to provide good load sharing. Helix angles vary from 5° to 45°. The helix angle for Single-helical gear falls between 20° and 35°, and for double-helical gears it falls between 20° and 45°.

Q: Why are helical gear and racks used instead of straight?

A: Helical gear racks have teeth that are cut at an angle (helix) rather than straight across. This angled design allows for smoother and quieter operation, especially at higher speeds. Helical racks also distribute load more evenly across the teeth, which helps reduce wear and improve lifespan.

As one of the leading helical teeth racks manufacturers and suppliers in China, we warmly welcome you to buy high quality helical teeth racks for sale here from our factory. For customized service, contact us now.
