Material Properties

 

This gear is made of 20CrMnTi steel. 20CrMnTi is a low-alloy high-strength steel with a carbon content of 0.18 - 0.24%, silicon content of 0.17 - 0.37%, manganese content of 0.50 - 0.80%, and chromium content of 0.70 - 1.00%. This composition endows it with excellent comprehensive performance:

(1)High strength: The tensile strength can reach 600 - 800MPa, enabling it to bear large working loads, reducing the risk of fracture during gear operation, and ensuring stable operation under high-load conditions.

(2)Good wear resistance: Chromium effectively improves the hardness and wear resistance of the steel. After appropriate quenching and tempering processes, the hardness can reach HRC30 - 42, reducing tooth surface wear and extending the service life of the gear.

(3)Sufficient toughness: It has certain toughness and can withstand a certain impact load, avoiding damage caused by impact and ensuring the reliability of the gear under complex working conditions.

The core working principle of a grinding machine lies in achieving precise finishing of the workpiece surface through the coordination of micro-cutting by abrasives and relative motion between the grinding tool and the workpiece. This can be elaborated through the following three key aspects:

 

I. Core Mechanism: Micro-Cutting and Surface Finishing by Abrasives

Grinding machines process the workpiece surface using abrasive particles (such as corundum, silicon carbide, diamond, etc.) attached to grinding tools (e.g., grinding wheels, grinding discs, grinding heads):

  • Cutting Action: When high-speed moving abrasive particles come into contact with the workpiece surface, their sharp edges perform micro-cutting on the surface material of the workpiece, removing residual machining marks (such as tool marks, scratches) or tiny protrusions.
  • Extrusion and Polishing Action: For fine-grained abrasives or under low-pressure conditions, abrasives primarily extrude the surface material of the workpiece, causing plastic flow of the surface metal to fill in micro-pits, thereby achieving a surface polishing effect.

1. Gear Measuring Center (CNC Gear Tester)

  • Structural Features: Adopts high-precision guide rails, servo drive systems, and touch-trigger probes (or scanning probes), combined with a rotary worktable to achieve fully automatic multi-parameter measurement of gears.
  • Working Principle: The gear is fixed on the rotary worktable, and the probe moves radially and axially. It collects tooth surface coordinate data through contact or non-contact methods, calculates various error parameters using software analysis, and generates visual reports.
  • Advantages: High precision (measurement error ≤ ±1μm) and high automation. It can detect various gear types such as spur gears, helical gears, bevel gears, and worms, and supports accurate measurement of complex parameters (e.g., helix angle, modulus).

 

2. Gear Meshing Tester (Single/Double Flank Meshing Tester)

  • Structural Features: Uses a standard gear (or measuring worm) to rotate in mesh with the tested gear, combined with sensors to detect deviations during the meshing process.
  • Working Principle:

Single Flank Meshing: Detects the tangential composite error of the gear, reflecting the accuracy of motion transmission by the gear.

Double Flank Meshing: Detects radial composite error and runout of the gear ring, evaluating the overall meshing stability of the gear.

Advantages: Simple operation and high efficiency, suitable for rapid quality screening of batch gears.

 

3. Specialized Gear Testing Instruments

  • Such as bevel gear rolling testers (detecting contact spots and meshing clearance of bevel gears), gear roughness testers (specifically detecting tooth surface roughness), and laser gear measuring instruments (non-contact measurement, suitable for easily deformable or soft-faced gears). These are designed for specific gear types or parameters.
